The Vietnam War was a military conflict in present day Vietnam occurring from 1959 to April 30, 1975.

The Vietnam War was finally concluded on 30 April 1975, with the fall of the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon to North Vietnamese forces. The war claimed between 2 and 5.7 million Southeast Asian lives, a large number of whom were civilians.

The conflict between the communists and colonial powers dated back to the 1950's when the Viet Minh fought the French and drove them out of the country in 1955. The start of the US war was 1964 when the Tonkin Gulf resolution was passed.

Geez, I hate to see these questions in the "History" section. For me, the war is like current events.
