If it is facing forwards or backwards, and whether or not its head is down or up?

Can you tell by the way it kicks? Or is there some clue I should look for when feeling around?

Thanks!

I have the most movement in the upper part of my belly, between my belly button and my boobs. lol.

i'll get duller, "pushy" movements near my pelvis.

From your discription it sounds like your baby has it's head down thus the dull pressure in your lower abdomen/pelvis. This is good because your baby is getting into position, no do not worry it's not about to pop out this is a very natural accurance. The real active parts of a baby are it's legs, thus the abundant movemets in your upper abdomen. There is no way to tell if baby if facing front or back. Unless it pushes it's rearend up enough for you to feel it. At birth it is ideal for the baby to come out face down (makes for an easier delivery).

If the baby is big enough you sometimes can. Yesterday my baby turned head-down. I can feel her punching really low in my abdomen (basically on my bladder, that's fun!), her feet are up in my ribs, and if she moves just right her little rear end makes a hard lump about halfway between my belly button and my ribs. Until she started really pushing out on my stomach (to the point that you can see where she is pushing), I couldn't tell at all where she was lying. Actually, I couldn't really tell what parts of her were where until the last week or so. Until yesterday, I could mostly just feel bony little elbows or legs occasionally, and once or twice her big round head.

When the baby gets really active, keep your hands on your stomach and see if you can't figure out what body part is moving. My little one tends to get more pushy if I poke back at her gently, and it's really easy to tell what she's hitting me with then. If you have a hard time feeling where the baby is, the doctor may be able to poke around and tell you, depending on how far along you are.

Good luck and congratulations on your little one!

My OBGYN told me that they even have a hard time telling until you're closer to delivery. (Especially with if the face is forwards or backwards.) Ask the DR the next time you go in for an exam.

The best way to guess: pay attention to where the baby is kicking you. If you're getting sharper japs in your ribs? or your pelvis? Also, the head and the butt felt really similar to me...so don't get those confused!

you should be able to feel a back if its facing downwards..my little one has got his head down ..his back up where my belly button is and a little higher and his bottom is to the right side of my stomach..its weird how you can tell but you get used to feeling around on your tummy just to see where the baby is..it might take some time to figure out what is where but u will soon..try seeing if you can feel harder areas in your tummy. by the way how many weeks are you >?..good luck and congrats..
