I was watching The Fast And The Furious the other night and thought how much the racing series seemed like Need For Speed.
I dont know if anyone else has noticed these links.
Underground 1 - The Fast And The Furious.
Most Wanted - 2 Fast 2 Furious (cos they drive in the day for most of the film)
Carbon - Toky Drift (cos of the drifting and the CANYON DUEL)
But then i thought
"I havent seen Need For Speed novels yet"
and i looked on Gamespot for the walkthroughs (having completed them myself). Would writing something that already exists be violating any Copyright Laws?
Please i need to know before i can start writing.

If a book is too similar to its "inspiration", the writers of the "inspiration" novels/media are able to sue for plagiarism... For example, I'm sure you've heard about the suits Dan Brown had to face for supposedly plagiarising parts of The Da Vinci Code: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticisms_of_The_Da_Vinci_Code#Allegations_of_plagiarism

Dan Brown won all the suits, as far as I'm aware, but they're still costly, either way.

(1) You need to talk to Electronic Arts about making a book based on their games
(2) There is already a book entitled "Need for Speed" but it is about running - so you will have to let EA's lawyers pick the name for your book.

I would contact a publishing house before you begin writing. They can tell you if someone has copyrighted it. I don't see how they could, though. They could copyright their faming experience, but not yours...
