the PC is ok, but 256MB of shared video memory, which is drawn from the main system memory. that will cause you trouble. the more memory on the video card the better. this one does not have any it shares it from the pc memory.

If you were doing anything but gaming, this would be a great buy. Even though the processor in that looks more than good, new fangled video games depend perform better based on the graphics card in the system BY FAR. Unfortunately with that laptop, it doesn't look like it has a dedicated one. Sims 2 would probably run ok. Oblivion, FO GET ABOUT IT.
If you haven't heard, Oblivion is one of the most graphically demanding games on the market, and that laptop just wouldn't cut it. If you can up your price point by $200 or $300, you should hunt around for a laptop with an dedicated graphics card but even then...it would have to be a good one. Oblivion is a beast.
If you change your mind and go with a desktop, you should be able to buy or build one good enough to play oblivion under that price. Leave me a message if you need more help.

Maybe the Sims - Graphics card is useless, as they say in the blurb: -
Audio/video: This notebook features integrated graphics and 256MB of shared video memory, which is drawn from the main system memory. This video memory is perfect for everyday activities like casual movie watching or gaming.
The gaming bit is stretching the truth. Forget about playing Oblivion on it - I have a monster gaming rig at home that plays it but I have yet to find a laptop that will play it with any sort of effects etc turned on.
If I was you I would look for a Laptop with an NVidia or ATI graphics chipset & 256meg of dedicated memory - shared memory will eat into your RAM & further decrease your gaming niceness.
Try looking at some of the online places like tigerdirect (cheap as chips).

For school this Laptop seems great, aside from it being a little heavy.
Gaming is another story, it looks like it's using an integrated video card with shared system memory. Sims 2 will run ok. Oblivion, you'll most likely have problems with, it's a very demanding game

Yep, that'll be a incredibly good gaming pc. :) as some distance because of the fact the different issues pass, in basic terms make effective they placed a 450W minimum (500W or extra advantageous stated) skill grant in it, incase you prefer to do enhancements interior the destiny. Motherboard would not remember much. in basic terms as long as that's a superb sort, with each and all of the trendy, standered good factors, it is going to be high-quality. additionally, SLI (Scalable link Interface) is the place 2 NVIDIA based pix enjoying cards are "hooked" mutually to grant you the earnings of one super pix card (once you have this, there will be 2 enjoying cards interior your case, and a pair of PCIe slots on your motherboard). Overclocking is the place you push your CPU or RAM to pass swifter than the default specs. you do not could be concerned approximately this however, because it is not something you extremely desire to do. and finally, your pc ordinary could be good for the subsequent 2-3 years a minimum of. It extremely relies upon on how lots you maintain up with the main modern-day video games. in case you prefer to play the very maximum recent video games each and all of the time, then i'd say that the prospect is there which you will could swap the pix card 2 or 3 years down the line. desire this facilitates, and happy gaming! :)

Okay for an hp dv6000, according to the hp web site, that series of notebooks got 2 out of 3 stars, for gaming, so I would say it will be just fine.
But I would suggest for the sims game, is to buy the version that was made for laptops. If it's not out already it should be out very soon. It called something like Sims stories or something.

For Sims 2 you'd be fine, but you're going to run into trouble with Oblivion, specifically with the processor speed and video card (because of the shared memory.) You're going to need a powerhouse PC, or an XBox 360.
Sorry...probably not what you wanted to hear. :(

Should be fine certainly for Sim2 two but if you want to game your really be looking at desktops. 1Gb of Ram should do but consider 2Gb in the future.
Only comment is that the video / graphics card is built into the motherboard so expect slight reduced quality graphics. The video card memory is also very poor.
