What's the best way to syncronize calendars with my wife?

Question

Say she wants to schedule a meeting with a friend that she wants me to be at, how does she lock a joint schedule to changes, set a date, unlock the joint schedule, and then inform me?

I've heard of PDA's/smartphones, iCal, Google/Yahoo calendar, etc., but what is the easiest and most robust solution? Two PDA's talking to a on-line server? Always entering things in Google/Yahoo calendar is too tedious, and may not alert the other person when a change has been made.
