Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier -- l love her writing, and it's too bad this style of gothic novel has gone out of style.

As a teenager, I liked:
Gone with the Wind by Mitchell (plenty to fashion and romance)
The Bastard and its sequels by John Jakes (long, but full of history and romance -- a quintessential family saga)
East of Eden by Steinbeck
Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein
The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged by Rand
Emma by Bronte (fashion, but Edwardian. Some things never change, though) Sense and Sensibility is good, too.

I haven't read them, but you might also like Valley of the Dolls, the Jackie Collins books, Love Story, Sidney Sheldon books, Stepford Wives -- all are bestsellers of that time.

Catcher in The Rye is older and good for a teen, but fashion-wise, not-so-much.

A good book for that has fashion in it is Bergdorf Blondes, or of course, The Devil Wears Prada.

I dont think the books for My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany's are something a teen would read, cause its pretty different from the movie version. They're good books, though. Im just not sure a teenage girl would like them.

Dear Sarah: "or anything that's good for a teenage girl" would have to be To Kill a Mockingbird. Not much on fashion, Scout is not much of a fashion hound, but long on what it means to be a young girl in difficult situations.
