I've been in the school play for years, and we just started doing musicals. I love it, but when I get in front of the directors to sing for tryouts and can't sing my best or loud enough. I know I can do it, and my friends agree. I just don't know how to get rid of this stage fright thing. HELP please!!!

I used to be totally scared too. My best suggestion is to pretend you already have the part. Yup, it worked for me. Get up there and pretend they have already told you you've got it. Psych yourself up and believe you own the part. Go in there. Smile and go to town. You deserve it, you've worked hard, now, just show them what you've got! It worked for me. You gotta psych yourself up as much as possible. You can even stage a mock audition and have a bunch of friends pretend to be the directors. It'll help, I promise! Good luck and break a leg out there!

Alot of people have the same problem with stage fright. I get nervous when I sing in front of the judges at an audition. But when I perform in a musical I am always fine.

Just relax. Pretend you are all by yourself... Nobody is near you. Get into your comfort zone. Concentrate on your cues and be confident. The judges love to see confidence!

Practice singing more in front of your friends.
Some warm up exercises before you go on stage would help project your voice. Voice the scales with HA HA HA HA... and make each HA flex your diaphragm.
During tryouts, focus your eyes on some space just above the heads of the middle row. Sing to their hair, foreheads, ears, hats until you get comfortable looking at the auidence members in the eye. Work up to it.
Smile big.
