I think Sheffield is the highest city in the uk. I know Birmingham is pretty high up too. Interested in finding out!
Birmingham is situated just to the west of the geographical centre of England on the Birmingham Plateau - an area of relatively high ground, ranging around 150-200 metres above sea level
Sheffield: The city's lowest point is just 10 m above sea level, while some parts of the city are at over 500 metres (1,640 ft). However, 89% of the housing in the city is between 100 and 200 metres (330 & 660 ft) above sea level.
Just found the above stats on wikipedia, so id definatly plump for Sheffield as being the highest!

The previous answer is perfectly correct about the highest village in the UK being Wanlockhead (its not big enough to be considered a town by the way - I've been there on many occasions). As you say though - you are looking for the highest city. As a knowledge of geography is part of my job, I thought this should be relatively easy to answer. However, I can't find a reference to the "highest city" anywhere. So, I'm resorting to educated guesswork.
Simply from looking at a topographic map of the UK, it looks to me like the best candidates are Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester (since there are no major cities on very high ground in Scotland or Wales). I think Bradford might just edge in as the highest. Sorry I can't be more accurate than that. Hope this helps.

The highest CITY is probably Birmingham.
I seem to remember that the highest league football club ground is West Bromwich Albion's.
And that's in Greater Birmingham.

Buxton, Derbyshire, lays claim to the title of the highest town in England, at 300m above sea level, but the highest town in Great Britain is Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, at nearly 500m.
