Julia;

The problem you have when buying used cars, especially inexpensive ones, is that somewhere on your sales contract I guarantee you will find the statement that the car is sold "AS IS, NO WARRANTY". That means the moment you drive off the lot the car is your problem. When you buy an inexpensive used you MUST have a mechanic check it out first. It's the best $100.00 you'll ever spend. You can try small claims court, but if the dealer shows the sales contract you probably will lose. Have your car towed to a repair shop, have it fixed, and learn from this experience. Sorry, I know this is not what you want to hear, but this is just the way it is

I wouldn't do business with them again. First thing is get a lawyer. Follow his directions. The only trouble is it's going to take you awhile to get your money back. I hope you are under 18, it will make it easier to void the contract. If not, and it was bought AS IS then it might take a little longer. Also, does your paper or TV stations have a trouble shooter? If so contact them, the car dealer may settle with you instead of getting all the bad publicity and closing his doors. Good luck

Sounds like you will have to sue the dealer in small claims court. Contact the consumer protection bureau in the state where you live. If there is not one, contact the state's Attorney General.

Its called the Lemon Law. Get an attorney

When you buy a vehicle, even though it is sold as is, if there is a catastrophic failure it falls under the Lemon Law which is to protect you from getting a crappy car.

If you signed an as is contract you're suck. Unless they misrepresented some important fact about the car.

yes contact your local police dept. and show the receipt and tell them what you have told us and get them to go there with you and get your money back. do not take another car from them though cause that is what they will offer you...just get your money back and go to a reputable company. =)
