We live in America, we can say whatever we want to, nobody can make a rule that you cant say a word, you may say whatever you please.

I often pose the same question regarding gays and the 'f word', I'm told that it's empowering to reclaim a derogatory term. Two problems with that: We're not REclaiming anything, that would imply that it was once ours, taken away, and now we're taking it back. Second, we can't be that happy with it when we have a collective coronary when someone outside the community uses it. I imagine it's pretty similiar to blacks and the 'n word'.

The N word has become part of our history. Unfortunately, it has taken the place of "Brotha" and "Sista". I don't use it and I make sure everyone around me knows my feelings so they don't use it towards me but who am I to say that everyone can't use it. There is the whole freedom of speech thing. Just know that if you use it, blacks or non-blacks, that you must be prepared with dealing with the consequences. But I don't want to see an end to free speech. And black people, if you decide to use it please know it's history, know where it comes from and what your parents and grandparents went through and you MUST respect it!

You know whats funny, in the Bahamas a Niggger is man. You hear ALL Bahamians use it (its also a vulgar slang). You'd see a white Bahamian talking 'bout some Chinese niggger who pissed him off.
I am NOT a niggger in the Bahamas.
NOW, with that said I guess we've been Nigggers since slave times. We called ourselves it...sometimes it was used like black or African American...ofcourse it was mostly used to degrade and belittle us by whites...I guess they've lost the priviledge because I see Asians, Latinos, and a lot of non whites in the US use it.
I use it, like I use B*tch and f*cker. I don't know why whites are soooooooooooo shocked that we don't want them using it just because we do.
If YOU don't like it don't let ANYONE call you it...PERIOD and say its no different than calling my mother a crack whore...I don't appreciate it.

I don't.
I think it's retarded and useless and even more isolating. How are we supposed to get past racism if we can't even speak the same words? Anyone I know who uses it, gets my caustic remarks.
It's ridiculous

I agree. But I guess it's no different that white's using hunky, or retard or giunea, etc.
It really evokes some powerful emotions.
