only history i can recall is about yarmouth being shelled by German warships in WW1, a submarine leaving the port at Gorleston was spotted and four German warships turned and ran. The power of the damned "unenglish" weapon.

sorry cant help, but love the thought of a town being saved from 4 huge warships by 1 small sub.

p.s big fan of gorleston and G.Y

"Behind the glamour, glitter and bright lights that make Great Yarmouth one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts, lies a charming town that is steeped in history.

Visitors have been coming to Great Yarmouth for nine hundred years but it is only in the last two hundred years that the seaside has become the main attraction. The monuments of Great Yarmouth's long and unique history are spread throughout the town.

Great Yarmouth has a rich and proud maritime heritage and once boasted being the one of the wealthiest towns in Britain on account of its prosperous herring industry. In 1724 Daniel Defoe was compelled to say that the town had "the finest quay in England, if not Europe". South Quay has recently been restored to resemble its former glory with a tree-lined avenue and walkway beside the river."

I suggest you try the Norfolk County Council Records Dept:- http://www.norfolk.gov.uk/consumption/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=3067
but I would guess the houses were built in Station Road from 1859 onwards, Yarmouth South Town station having opened on 1 June 1859 as the terminus of the East Suffolk Railway

Pretty straightforward.

1. Was established at the mouth of the river Yar.

2. Grew a lot.

3. The houses in Station Road started to get built just after the new railroad was completed.
