The nurse told my wife today that when the screening was done at the lab they used the date that they received the sample and not the date that it was drawn. Could this be the reason for the abnormal result. so they were 16 days off on the estimate of the baby's age. We have been worried sick for the last 2 weeks and today she is going in for her level 2 ultrasound. I am in Iraq and I won't get the word on how it went for awhile. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks

My wife just came back from her level 2 ultrasound and they said all 16 markers were good and they didnt see any signs of down syndrome. they didnt give her an amnio. Does it sound like the baby will be born healthy?

Everything came back great. The lab said they made a mistake and put the wrong date on the lab sample and when they did the recalcultaion they said the Triple Screening came back completely normal. We are very happy. Thanks for all the replys to my questions. 3 weeks of hell because of a lab mistake.

The triple test sucks... I had the same problem and was worried sick about my baby who's now a healthy 11 months old. I know it's hard to stay calm, because I have been there, but believe me, the wrong rate on this test is really high.

On top of that, it's actually using a statistical system - so for example if your result is 120 - it only means that you're 1 out of 120 that 'might' be at risk... that doesn't even mean a thing!

Anyway, the triple test have been unused in many countries who now use 4 types of hormones instead.

All the best to you, and let us know the results, okay?

From what I've heard and read, the date has to be very accurate or the results will be messed up. That is most likely what happened with your wife. These days there are so many tests and so many of them come back with false positives, it's very nerve wracking. Just remember your chances of having a healthy, normal baby are far greater than your chances of the baby having problems. I'm 29 weeks now and I've had my share of scares with this pregnancy and so far everything is looking normal. But it's hard not to get scared about these things. Good luck and I'm sure everything will be ok!

First you need to know that the false positive rates on the triple screen are extremely high even when done correctly.

When I was pregnant with my second daughter I got a call on my 21st birthday telling me my results come back positive and then had to go to the level 2 ultrasound which showed everything was ok....if you wanna know the false positive rate try doing a yahoo search about it.

The ultrasound results are VERY positive. Things sound good - especially at your wife's young age.

Stay safe and hope you're home soon to meet the healthy new person.

First there are alot of false positives in this test thats why alot of women opt to not take it. I hope everything turns out ok try not to stress to much maybe you are one of the false ones.

Good luck and God bless you and your wife.

Sounds like your going to have a happy healthy baby.
