My sister is moving to Alaska and I would like to setup a web cam on both of our PC's so we could talk to each other and see each other as well. I know I need a web cam but what else do I need to be able to make this work. Any recommendation on the different web cams out there would also be helpful. Thx

Once you get a web cam, you need to install the software on the cd that came with it before hooking up the webcam.
Once thats done, install an instant messenger like yahoo, or msn. Ill give you all the links you need for a free messenger to talk to your sister......Also, try to get a web cam with a microphone, or you might have to invest in a headset with a mic......A link at the bottom for good web cams...

There are alot of plug and play ones out there.. Check out logitec. they have been in the market for a while and are pretty good..

Get a connection fast than dialup.. and get on a chat system like yahoo which supports web chat.. once you connect yahoo IM you can use the camera as long as the computer sees it connected.

Yahoo messenger supports web cams.
Any moderate priced webcam will work.

Yahoo! Messenger will allow video chat, and Skype will also. Those are the best ones for the job.

only need yahoo messenger and a webcam on both pc's. just look at how much you want to spend and how clear you want the pic to be. a high resolution is better.

check what comes with the webcam -sometimes they bundle software for video conferencing with the camera.

however, there are so many other choices. I would try SKYPE. skype works well through firewalls and NAT routers and so on. And it supports video camers now too.
