Being an immigrant in CA is nothing unusual, and enough of them have a way better GPA that your chance at UC Irvine isn't that great. When I was applying to college (7 years ago), UC Riverside literally would accept any student who met the minimum GPA/SAT requirement. As a result, it had a bad reputation, but maybe it's improved over the last 7 years (and, it's a bad reputation relative to the other UCs; it's still better than most of the Cal States).

Your high school counseling office should be able to give you a chart that shows what SAT score is minimally required for each GPA. (There are also required courses and recommended courses; make sure you're meeting and exceeding those requirements.) I don't remember the chart, and SATs were out of 1600 when I took them.

Good luck! Study your butt off for the SAT; it'll be worth all the misery and effort when you (a) get into a better school, (b) get more scholarship money, or (c) both.

I doubt it with UC Irvine, even with a 2100. Being an immigrant doesn't really help. If you do get in, it woulda been by the skin of your teeth. No, UCI isn't Berkeley, but it's not crap either. The Davis/Irvine/Santa Barbara group are still in the top 50 in the nation. They're not crap schools.

You have a shot at Riverside. Mainly cuz of that 2100 SAT score though. You better study your butt off on the SATs.

It all comes down to the SAT results. If you meet the minimum there is a good chance. If you are a senior you might want to look at a community college first. a)the classes are easier to get for general ed and pre req.s b)it is cheaper c)you can get a better gpa and apply to better colleges d)plus remember when you graduate with a masters or bachelor your certifictae wont say you went to a community college for 2 or so years. If you are a senior take a bunch of sat workshops. Hopefully you are taking AP classes. Look into Academic enrichment classes for the summer also. Sports help a bit but unless you are the next Derek Jeter than it really wont make a HUGE difference. You also need to rack up the community service hours. If you become distinguished for community service it will make a much bigger impact than sports on your transcript.

Dude... it's UC Irvine/Riverside, it's not like you're aiming for Berkeley here.
