Highway 1 which goes right round Australia is about 20,000km long. It cuts off a few corners and is not always the closest road to the coast. If you use coast roads where Highway 1 is inland, you would add, perhaps, another 1-2000km to the journey.

Like others have said, it's quite hot around the December months. If you like the tropics then continue up to Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, etc. If you like your history and nature then NSW and Tasmania have a lot to offer in that respect. I'm a huge fan of Tassie and there really is a lot to see down there. I've done a couple of road trips Adelaide - Melbourne and back. I've also done one to Tasmania via the boat and that's a pretty good experience, too (and that does take a car). What I've found is that along the way we have a lot of really good bakeries to drop in on and get yourself something to eat. The best place to be at Christmas? Hmm... I'd be biased and say Adelaide, lol, but any of the capital cities turn it on really nicely around Christmas time. If you're going to be still in Australia for New Year then check out the fireworks at Sydney Harbour... Spectacular!!!

I'm not sure if you mean actually travelling along the coastline, or just in general, but Australia is a huge place - and about the size of the US.

This gives some great info on driving distances, and might be what you're looking for.

I hope it helps....

Australia is a large country and one cannot drive around it in a month. Blue Travel suggests visitors choose a specific region of interest to concentrate their holiday.

Depends which way you travel around it. As we drive on the LHS of the road here, if you go in a clockwise direction it will be further than anticlockwise.
