All of a sudden, my laptop will only run on battery power and stopped taking power from the wall outlet cable. I checked Dell's website and the first thing that came up was a thread from their forum saying that the motherboards needed to be recalled for this same problem and that Dell refused to admit any problem. Does anyone know if such a recall is pending or if there's an existing recall which I could get this fixed under? Or if not, then does anyone know a quick fix for this problem?

Regardless you should have at least 2 year warranty of your product and should demand Dell to replace your system. I would be upset if I paid for a device that stopped working fully.
Contact a Dell technician for free from the website http://www.dell.com and get more information.

I know the Optiplex GX270's had a problem with the motherboards, but I haven't heard of the Inspiron 1150s. There is a recall on some laptop batteries though, check yours here:

Yeah, Dell notebooks SUCK. It's pretty much JUNK at this point. Even if you had an extended warranty, they would send it back to you STILL BROKEN. (claiming that it is fixed).

Visit Dell, and you will see where the CRAP comes from.

If you must, get on the phone with DELL, and wait... and wait some more.

Next time, buy a Toshiba laptop. Buy from a retailer that cares.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Look at tigerdirect or pcstore, or some online outlet. Then call a LOCAL repair shop, ask them how much to install a Mobo in that kind of computer.
You can use some sites that will automatically ID the Mobo or you can enter in some ID #s Serial Numbers and get one that matches.

Do you have a Software of your motherboard?
If you have you need to reinstall it.
If don't just call a programmer now.
