i have been having an issue with my period since september. I have really long periods. no pain, not a large amount of blood..but i just bleed for 2-3 weeks long.. I went to the doctor at the end of jan. she said that it was probably due to stress.. I had blood work done and a pap smear...the doctor called me to make another appointment for another pap because she said that there wasnt enough cells to complete the tests,, she said there was nothing to worry about...i called the office to make another appointment on(march 2nd) ( they said i couldnt come when i had my period. i started my period on feb 5 and i still have it (feb 27)). I dont know what to do.. they wont let me have the appoint ment with my period, and i am so frustrated that doc blames it on stress, which i told her that most of my life is stress free. Does anyone know how i can stop the period? and does anyone know what it could be that is making me blled like this?

How old are you? Are you taking birth control pills or not? I think that your doctor is simply 'crazy' if he thinks that these 'extra long' periods are simply 'stress' related ... you could be in an 'early peri-menopause' (the time before your actual 'menopause' starts, and even before your periods stop entirely) or you could have something else 'causing' you to bleed for so long. I had some of the 'worst periods' known to mankind, and the 'worst' I ever had was a couple of periods that lasted for nine or ten days. GO TO ANOTHER DOCTOR and don't tell that office about what your 'first doctor' said until after they've checked you out 'completely' ... then tell them and ask them 'why' their diagnoses either agree or disagree. I know how 'scary' it is to be bleeding for a long time ... but your doctor seems to be totally 'unfeeling' and not to 'care' about you ... GOOD LUCK. The new doctor may not be able to do the 'pap' test right away, but I'll BET that you'll get a good 'pelvic exam' to see just what is going on ... pap smears must be done (if at all possible) when there is 'no blood' in the vaginal cavity ... but there are 'other tests' that can be done, including a 'pelvic' exam while you are bleeding, because you are bleeding for 'so long' ...

I have abnormally long bleeding and I have been recently diagnosed with poly cystic ovary syndrome.
I am on the pill and it has helped greatly.
Ask you doctor if you should be checked for PCOS
