My coach says that i'm taking off before i plant. I put the pole in the box, then take off, but then the pole slips around before actually planting. This causes me to get virtual worthless height and fall in front of the bar even.

I'm holding the pole pointed up while i run, locking my arms correctly, taking off with the right knee up and everything else, but i just can't seem to plant well enough before taking off.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Try this site it has tips on the vault.
http://www.runningonline.com/zine/How_To/Field_Events/177.sht

The Takeoff:

At takeoff, the top hand should be held as high as possible and directly over the takeoff foot.

The takeoff should be forward and upward, as a long jumper takes off. Penultimate and takeoff mechanics resemble those of a long jumper.

Proper body posture should be maintained throughout takeoff. Forward and backward lean at takeoff are common errors in this event.

Pole bend should be a natural occurrence, not a goal in itself.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you find the sequence in picture form, or go on Youtube and analyze footage of people like Yelena Isinbyeva or Sergei Bubka.
