because the movies most people watch aren't historical, aren't boring, they don't make you cry, and are actually humorous or actiony. has there ever even been a comedy nominated?

Because they try to make it to serious. the average movie watcher only watches like 5 to 7 movies that are nominated. Many of the movies are limited release anyway. Not to mention if the movie is creating alot of hype then its nominated. Ex.Dreamgirls no matter how stupid the movie was. I think movies that are good but don't win is very stupid and makes the academy seem like a teenage high school click that only picks what hot and decides who's not.

I wish they would nominate films that people actually can watch over and over. The Departed was really good, but I don't think I could stomach that movie more than once. Babel was "deep" but not watchable a second time. The Queen was great, but again, not something most people would watch more than once. Little Miss Sunshine and Dreamgirls I could watch over and over, though! My picks for this year would have been:
Dreamgirls
Stranger Than Fiction
Pirates of the Caribbean 2
The Pursuit of Happyness
Borat

I completely agree with you Harley. I think its because the Academy knows what people actually watch/watched so they nominated the stuff that no one sees so they'll watch another movie. Personally, POTC didn't deserve ANY NOMINATIONS. And the nominations for best song should have been : My Little Girl (Tim McGraw), Chicago (Sufjan Stevens), Something from Dreamgirls and Cars

Uh, they do...I saw all those films. Just because you don't watch them doesn't mean others don't.
