Ok, so I don't know what happened to it, it just won't turn on?? Its an Advent 3214 and as long as I've had it I could hear the fan, but then recently it sounded different, and now it has just given up

The screen and stuff itself still work but the knowledge that I have of computers only goes as far as a GNVQ in ICT and a soon A Level in Media Studies which doesn't really help

Does anyone know if there's an online manual for this PC that I can download as I have no idea what happened to the orginal, also is there anything that I can do to identify what has happened before phoning a helpline or getting a professional a I have a lot of college work on there, that I'm not so much bothered about, but I fear I have lost all my pictures of holidays, family, friends etc which is what annoys me the most out of the situation

Please when answering be specific, I have already checked all the connections and replaced the fuses of the plugs...

Thanks in advance for all the help guys!!

Hi, Advent are made by packard bell and I have a packard bell and same thing happened to me recently. Used to hear the fan, it got louder, then nothing. Did your pc start cutting out on its own, as though you had a power cut. then cutting out a bit more often. Thats what mine did. The fan had siezed causing it to overheat. The motherboard fan still works but everyone who says its the power supply or psu are right. It more than likely got same one as mine made by fsp. Does one of your speaker wires connect to the back of the power supply (purple connector). You can get a new psu for about £15 if you shop around. Don't go to pc world for bits. They are a rip off.

You can have a look inside quite easy. 2 screws hold each side of the case on the back. As you look at front of the computer you want to be taking off the LEFT side of the case. nd the screws and slide the side to the back. PSU is held in with 4 screws. Have a look at the big fan and see if it moves freely. If its stiff the psu is no good. If it move nice and free it maybe something else.

If it was the processor fan that was broken it would still work for a while before it overheated and went off. It may be that you need a new power supply or that the power supply hasn't got enough wattage. Have you added any new hardware that doesn't have its own mains connection? Alternatively it could be something as simple as a broken switch. Also, if you opened the PC up and touched the circuitry you may have destroyed it with ESD. You could really do with having a tech look at it

its does sound like the power supply, but at least it nots the motherboard,or is it
first you need to find out the make of your motherboard,as your p.c isnt working you need to open your case and physically inspect the motherboard and look for the name and model number, and then using another p.c enter this make and model as a search, for example abit nf5_s
you will then be forwarded to the manufacturers website wereyou can download the manual, chipset drivers and a bios update
i am confident its the power as you said it has started to sound different and then given up,so a 400w power supply should be a ample replacement, then you should just replace your pld psu for the new one, then just attach the atx connector to the motherboard, and all the power leads to the components
this psu replacement is plenty easy enough for you to do so dont pay a shop to do it,as it will cost you alot more than you think, probally around £60 including labour charges
good luck

particular. you should the two have a defective potential supply, a blown fuse in reported potential supply, or it extremely is too crammed with dirt and has overheated. so a ways as though leaving it on is going to kill it? probable no longer on account which you are going to could reboot it on occasion to the two fix a memory difficulty or prepare an replace. I in many circumstances bypass away my computer on at artwork throughout the time of the week on account that i do no longer desire to watch for it as nicely up first ingredient interior the morning, and my computer at house is on 24/7 and that i've got by no potential had a difficulty with the container itself dying. Keyboards and not undemanding drives are a distinctive tale nonetheless - in particular no longer undemanding drives.

Sounds like it could be your power supply thats died. They tend to do that quite a lot. I doubt if you've lost all your files, the hard drives are pretty resiliant.

Power supplies are about £25 for a decent one, if you ask at pc world, they'll be able to diagnose, but if you can, fit it yourself if it is that. Its an easy job and will save you about £20 fitting charge

It's hard to tell if it was the power supply fan or the CPU fan. If it was the power supply fan, then the power supply might have overheated and will not give power anymore. If it was the CPU fan, your CPU might have overheated and fried. If it's still under warranty, get it fixed...otherwise take it to a pro and they can diagnose it.

though your description of problems are not very clear to me but so far I understand I'll suggest you to check your motherboard's battery. open your computer casing and take off the battery from your motherboard. touch it's corner (where + & - joins) by your tongue, if it tastes little bit like electric shock then its ok otherwise the battery is dead. if this is the case then change the battery and hopefully your problem will solve.
if you can't solve the problem this way then check your Powersupply, RAM and VGA card. if you fail to solve the problem anyway then don't worry. you won't loss your data (as long as the hard disk is not burnt) connect the hard disk to one of your friend's computer as secondary hard disk and make backup of your data.
If you need further help please feel free to contact me on anamju@gmail.com (please mention brief summary of the problem in the subject line)
