I want to watch "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" but I haven't seen the first two movies in the Man with no Name trilogy. Is each movie autonomous, or do they depend on each other

OK now b_lcky,you have presented a good question addressing 3 of the greatest spaghetti western movies ever made.I am a long time aficionado and collector of these kind of movies and can give you some good input for your question. These 3 movies whose central character is a nameless, stranger gunslinger(portrayed by Clint Eastwood)are totally independent to each other. There are no connections or sequel plan to any of these stories. The producer Sergio Leone had his niche for the central character to be similar in all 3,but with no subsequent connections to the other film stories---so see them in any order you desire.By the way, these are the ones that started the whole spaghetti western movie genre along with"Once upon A Time In The West"also by Surgeo Leone.Good movie choices!!!

although its been stated that they were not connected. to watch them as if they were you want to watch the good, the bad and the ugly first as in this film clint acquires his iconic outfit. and takes place either before or during the civil war. and in a fist full of dollars Lee Van Cliffe's character is portrayed to be a down trodin vet of the war. and in a few dollars more there is a head stone dated 1873.

No,i've seen the good, the bad and the ugly.I haven't seen either of the other two films,so i would say watch it, you dont need to have seen the other two.In fact ,im not sure the trilogy stories are even connected. But just watch the film and enjoy it,it is a classic

I tried watching them all in the same night years ago at a drive in movie Clint Eastwood marathon. By the 3rd one, they all started to look like the same movie and I forgot which one I was watching. Nobody in the car could remember, so we left and went to the drag races.

No, it's not necessary. It plays more like The Man With No Name adventures, like Indiana Jones.
