In the second round at Dubai, Nadal is playing Igor Andreev. Although ranked 136, the interesting thing about this match-up is that Andreev beat Nadal the last time they played, on clay in 2005. Since then Nadal has not lost on clay in over 2 years. Does Andreev have a chance this time around?

And why the heck did Baghdatis play Nadal in the first round? That is too good a matchup to occur so early.

i dont really will be a contest as i think Nadal will just purely outclass him. they met 2 years ago when Nadal did not have the experience while now he does so it will no match. Baghdatis met Nadal early on as he is not seeded so its the lcuk of the draw and did not get a bye.

Baghdatis faced Nadal in the 1st round of Dubai because Baghdatis wasn't a seeded player. Baghdatis was ranked 17 going into the tournament and the 8th (and last) seed was David Ferrer who is ranked 15. Therefore, Baghdatis was randomly ordered in the draw with all the other unseeded players and Nadal was unlucky to have drawn him in the 1st round.

I'm answering your question about the Nadal/Andreev match after it's conclusion, so I won't make a prediction! I don't think you can pay too much attention to a match that happened 2 years ago between the two players, too much changes between that time. I think it's interesting that you noted that Andreev was the last player to beat Nadal before Nadals' record making streak on clay. What I will say in response is that Andreev himself has had his best results on clay. In the 1st round of the Davis Cup this year, he played on the clay courts in Chile for Russia and had two great victories against Nicolas Massu (53) and Fernando Gonzalez (5). He also made the quarter-finals of the clay event Vina del Mar earlier this year (l. Luis Horna), so I think Andreev and Nadal playing on hard courts is an equalizing factor for both of them. I think Nadal would have been favoured for the match but Nadal is always vunerable on hard courts. Nadal ended up winning 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(2), but lost in the next round 7-6(5), 6-3 to in form Russian Mikhail Youzhny (18).

Nadal will kill Andreev. Baghdatis wasn't a top 8 seed so it was just luck of the draw.

By the way Dubai is hard court not clay.

probably not...nadal is inconsistent sometimes, but the only way nadal will lose is if he's having a bad day & andreev is having a great day
