No as there is no money in the market really, just stocks. It is a giant auction, just like an estate auction, except when you buy a piece of junk at an estate auction you are stuck with it, in the stock market you can immediately turn around and sell it. Further, you would have to personally rob hundreds of millions of individual people. It isn't all held in one location. Each person's 401(k) would have to be robbed, for example. And if you did rob it, what would you do with it. It isn't like you could fence it. Your idea is mechanically impossible and as meaningless as saying, if I robbed every penny held anywhere on the planet, would a Great Depression occur. It just cannot be done.

Seeing as there is no money in the Stock Exchange, I dont think you will cause a Depression...

They simply trade stocks, mostly online or over the phone. Money is exchanged electronically, not a hand transaction. And, even if you suceeded in stealing all the paper currency in the US, it still wouldnt make a difference. Its just paper.

well where would you hide it? I'm sure they'd get the money back quick if you didn't really hide it well. And second I believe they have some insurance money just case of a disaster. The Great Depression didn't happen because people had their money stolen.
