Cheney almost getting blown up has very little to do with the Dow falling?

"Concerns that tighter credit conditions in China and Japan might dampen global growth first sent Shanghai sliding 9% overnight before the sell-off spread to other markets."

Most people who report the news are also stock market retards. If you want to understand what is happening in the markets read the business reporters. See http://biz.yahoo.com/cbsm-top/070227/f22e4630baad29bd4d6c044dfc3359fa.html

Cheney's got nothing to do with the Dow.

As Edwin Lefevre wrote nearly 90 years ago in the classic Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, if the stock market goes up or down, gullible and ignorant journalists start asking around for a reason, and they run with whatever they hear. Some moron introduced the idea that people were selling their stock today because a bomb went off when Cheney was in Afghanistan, and that bit of brilliant reportage got mixed into the news cycle.

If there is any correlation, it probably has to do with instability. If Cheney got bumped it would cause unpredictable results, including overreaction from the US causing possible reprisals from jihadists or even moderate players going to extremes. Business is more risky during those times, oil flow could be restricted, etc.

Initial overblown estimates of the attack (apparently Cheney was not in danger) or overall expectations of more attacks could have led to the nervousness re stability.

That's my guess.
Peace
