The usual suggestion is to wait until the day you are expecting your period, but they do have early detection tests that you can use as soon as 4 days before your expected period. Keep in mind that if you use a test and it is negative you should wait a week and do another one. Hormone levels increase daily, so they may not show up on the test if you test too soon. Good luck!!

Today isn't too soon. As long as you know that a negative result may not be true b/c it could be too early to test for you since everyone's HCG levels increase differently. Some studies show First Response can detect pregnancy even 7 days before a missed period but that same study showed that some women didn't get a positive with First Response until a week after they missed their period. So you can use an early results brand (like First Response although there are many options) anytime just keep the result in perspective. A blood test at the drs would be accurate about the same time.

It's usually the most accurate to wait 2 weeks after ovulation. The baby does not begin producing HCG until it implants which is 6-10 days after conception, to my knowledge.
So, to be safest, you'd wait 2 weeks after your latest ovulation date to test. You could test earlier, but might run the risk of a "false negative."
Charting your fertility signs can very accurately pinpoint your ovulation (even predict it) and can also tell you when your next period is on its way or when to suspect pregnancy (18 days of sustained high temps after ovulation).
Many women do NOT have textbook cycles. Therefore Day counting may not be helpful. If there is a delay in conception, day counting would not be able to help you pinpoint the cause either.
I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.
Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

I've heard that First Response and EPT can detect HCG levels as early as 5 days before your missed period, but I've talked to several women who didn't have high enough levels in their urine for a test to detect. A blood test is the only surefire way to know, but it might be too early for you still. Hope all goes well! :D

If youre anything like me, i just couldnt wait! Sure, take one today then if its negative, wait a few days and if no period still, take another. I took one 11 days past ovulation and got a positive. The best of luck to you! :)

Wait 14-19 days after the sex act, regardless of when your period is due. It can take that long for your egg to implant and being making hcg, if you are pregnant. Good luck!

It's not too soon because a week after conceiving a baby you can find out. I recommend an early response test to find out.
