I took a while writing this, not perfect, but should suffice for the ninth grade. It's also in iambic pentameter. You can say you really researched this. I doubt anyone will do better.

To write is to perceive, the pen is light
A pen glides to define, to give blessed sight
With wings it leaves a mark into the sky
Its realm all that gives the power to fly
And still it craves the dark that's in its ink
Writing is to swim, to soar, and to sink
Only to swim once more, lifted by thought
To search caverns, reflect on all that's sought
With the soul. To have know life in one stream
The dirt of grief, bliss felt in a light's beam

I would look around the room and see something that is mildly interesting and then write about it. Ten lines isn't very many. Pick something with a pattern on it or that has something unique about it and describe it as best you can using poetic language. For example what I see in my room I that I would write about if I were you is the lava lamp going on my desk or maybe one of the decorative rocks over on the table. Be Creative.

One of my best acting teachers had us start with an inanimate object...pick anything....and start taking notes on what you notice about the object....ANYTHING....eventually, you'll get comparisons going....two lines, for instance, might point to a conflict...the light reflection may be an irritating source of that conflict....but all may recover from this otherwise disorder, and what will be, will see, as it flows out from the mother, into glorious chaos, and really not the other.........get it?
