I plan to go to San Diego Comic Con next year in 08. I like to plan things very early, and I like to figure out prices and things otherwise they're constantly in my head.

Anyway, if I could I would drive there, but sadly I'm like 13, and no one I know would ever drive me that far.

So, what would be the cheapest mode of transportation, other than a normal car, to get from New Jersey to San Diego, California? Plane, train, a series of buses or a series of taxis? Or anything else?

The Amtrak train is fun but really, with advance planning, you can find a really cheap flight to SD. I flew from Newark to SD for $129 recently on USairways

The Greyhound bus is the cheapest. I don't think they will allow a young girl to travel to California alone so before you make too many plans, check that out. It really doesn't sound like a good idea to me and your family may feel the same way.

The cheapest way would probably be by bus. Contact the con committee about the cheapest way to get to the hotel from the bus station. The bigger cons have that info on hand.

Remember, time is a factor, too. Is it worth it for you to spend that much time on a bus.

Flying would be the cheapest and fastest - as I dont believe they would let a 13 year old travel alone on a bus or a train.

Hopefully you are going with an adult

I would say flying is going to be the cheapest, in the long run. I would not suggest at 13 taking a bus that far, unless someone is going with you. I have been to that convention, it is pretty cool, but you really do need to have someone go with you who is an adult.

Bus would be the cheapest. But it is:

a) massively time consuming

b) somewhat dangerous - especially at your age

c) massively time consuming.

Maybe try to hook up with someone else who is driving out there, and split the cost. You could take a bus ride to meet them.
