Yes because when you write a song it comes from your heart and your experiences in life such death - love - silly little things and normally they can be put in to words that rhyme or flows music comes from the heart and the mind because when you write the poem you have to think of some meaningful words that comes from the heart for example how your feeling at that particular moment either down or sad and put it into words then put it into a poem mode and bobs your uncle you have a song.

Yeah definately, if you were to write a lyrics but never put a tune to it, you could leave it as poem. Most songs tell stories or describe something, just like a poem. So with a poem, put a tune to it, and you have a song.

Poems differ from prose- i.e novels and books with continuous prose(writing)

Music lyrics are just poetry set to music- poetry sometimes rhymes and sometimes does not- blank verse. In a way poems often have a rhythm and this is similar to music.

Poems can rhyme, but rhyming doesn't make something a poem.

all songs are poems, but all poems are not songs. Some poems don't have a set meter to them, making them dificult to sing or set music to.
