In Colorado you're considered common law if you have lived together for over a year and can prove it. Hence... having a rental lease you both signed. Plus I do know there is something about having things together... like a checking account where you are both signers or car insurance. Something like that. I'm not sure if that was in addition to the year of living together or another way. But the year I know for sure... I live in Colorado.
