I was looking for the words to help me understand who I am. I apologize for asking.

I never thought of starting a movement. I am only seeking a connection that seems to elude me.

I just feel like there is something to this place and I haven't got my mind around it yet.

You are an American. There are many ethic influences which make up my background including American Indian. When someone asks I say I am 100% American mutt and proud of it. I was born in the United States therefore I am ultimately a native American as are you.

First you are a citizen, then the break down begins. Then comes the dictionary with it's accepted take on words /NATIVE : belonging by birth to a people regarded as natives, esp. outside of the general body of white peoples:
Native plants/ non native plants/ when does the definition serve it's purpose and then who will accept the bottom line catch phrase. Maybe it will become the new have and have not's reason for division in the ranks. Although many don't care to be identified as such. Another one of those you can't win, lose or draw to suit everybody road blocks that changes many without a doubt. Regardless, you are of this nation, born in the USA, that relates to what is important at this time in history, American Baby
no more no less. I think the sorting out process will identify the accepted understanding of the word.

I do know what you are not. You are not a Native American. The term Native American was given to Indigenous people of this country by Your government. As a Native woman I don't mind if you want to start a movement to force the government to use a more respectful term to define Native people. Until then stop trying to claim our name, take it up with your government and not Native people.

the only natives in america are the Native Americans. Everyone else are immigrants.

It sounds foul to call them A. Indians (for me at least). That word has a foul history. It's more respectful to call them Natives or First Nations. It's true, anyway, they ARE the first people in america.

History lessons anyone?
