Some players like Thierry Henry and Ryan Giggs take free kicks quickly and score. The opposing team may protest vehemently, but the goal still stands. So what exactly does the rule book say? Is it up to the referee's discretion? Does he have to blow his whistle? Why do some referees insist that the kick can not be taken quickly?
I have not read one report on the Lille - Man Utd game that mentioned the rules. Can anyone help?
