St Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland. True, he was not a born Irish. But he has become an integral part of the Irish heritage, mostly through his service across Ireland of the 5th century.
Patrick was born in the later half of the 4th century AD. There are differing views about the exact year and place of his birth. According to one school of opinion, he was born about 390 A.D.,
while the other school says it is about 373 AD. Again, his birth place is said to be in either Scotland or Roman England.
His real name was probably Maewyn Succat.
Though Patricius was his Romanicized name,
he was later came to be familiar as Patrick.

No one really knows what he looked like as there were no cameras in his time and he never had a portrait painted of him. Actually, there may have been more than one St. Patrick on the books. St. Patrick was credited with spreading Christianity to the Irish people.

Saint Patrick is the Irish patron saint who is "famous" for "driving all the snakes from the Emerald Isle".
There were never snakes in Ireland, the climate is too cold.
The meaning of "driving the snakes out" refers to the Christian conversion of the many Celtic peoples there.
Saint Patrick was an intolerant, small minded bully.

St. Patrick's real name was Maewyn Succat. He was a Christian missionary and is regarded as the patron saint of Ireland along with Brigid of Kildare and Columba. Born in Britain. When he was about sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. He entered the church, as his father and grandfather had before him, becoming a deacon and a bishop. He later returned to Ireland as a missionary, working in the north and west of the island, and by using Monasteries as the center for his missionary work had great success in the conversion of Ireland. By the seventh century he had become a patron saint of Ireland, and the foundations of Irish Christianity were attributed largely to him.
