can i copy music from a cd to that laptop without it slowing down?

sure, hard drives have nothing to do with preformance, unless you instal programs into the registry, just dont put to much because the laptop needs enough room to hold temp. files and recycling bin files.

your ram and hard drive size do not have anything to do with the laptop slowing down with more files being put on it.

The only thing you need to worry about is if you get near 1ish Gb of space on the hard drive then you will start seeing performance degraded.

no. need more ram and a bigger hard drive. also what cpu does it have? and model is the laptop? and what cd write speed is it. from what you agve me it souds like it would run slow. but if your not save it to the harddrive then you could be ok. just take a wail to burn it.
