I read an article in the newspaper about a man lying in the hospital, paralyzed. His dream was to light the state capitol dome (omitting his name and the state for privacy). He was the victim of an anti-gay hate crime.
This is appalling. An elderly man attacked outside of his homw because of his sexual orientation. Now he is paralyzed. I find this the last straw.
Personally, I think that Congress ought to enact a resolution to enforce and prevent future attacks like this from happening. What about you? If you do know about the story, please do not mention it, for the man's privacy.

There are laws against physical attack on anyone. Unfortunately, there are so many people who don't follow laws and give in to their ignorance and hatred.
I had a friend who's apartment was robbed, vandalized, and slurs painted inside the walls because he was gay. He moved in with me for a while until he regained his confidence.
Hate crimes should have much more severe punishments. Perhaps then, idiots would think before they reacted to their own delusional hatred.

I cant even begin to fathom a hate crime or any heinous crime against a human being. It just doesnt make sense why anyone would want to hurt someone because of who they love. This man's story is so sad. I wish there was something that could be done but I don't think people are that open minded for it to happen yet. It has gotten better but its still not even close to being accepted. I just wish someday and hopefully soon that everyone will be treated equal and have the choice to love freely.

The last straw was bent ages ago. Intolerance of anykind is rediculous. We all know the rhetoric of social change comes when you actively persue a fair and well balanaced government. The real truth of the matter is that these autrocities are not considered barbaric in the federal governments mindset. There are no equal rights for the GBLT community. I think that everyone person in this country is responsible for this slight. I just dont understand why the intolerance, we all know and love someone from the GBLT subculture. Think React, and make a change, apathy warrants further humilities.

It is always terrible when someone is a victim of a hate crime for any reason. The thing that the people committing these crimes don't realize is that instead of getting rid of what they think is the "problem" all they are doing is throwing that issue into the spot light. It shows America what their hatred is causing.
Of course I wish that our government would take charge in protecting gay people. I think that if gay hating Americans saw politicians treating us equally, giving us the right to marry etc. they would be forced to see us as equals.

I haven't heard the story but after I saw an answer from someone on here whose partner was murdered from a basher, I feel the need to do something. I've been calling several different groups who give me other phone numbers. I don't care if I have to call 10 different countries to get an answer. It might take a while but I just want to rid the world of these vicious animals.

It's sad.
No one has the right to take a life be they gay or otherwise.
Gays, just like straights have as much rights, too.
Just because a person can't tolerate something doesn't mean he have to attack it or annihilate it. There are other ways to deal with it, in this civilized world other than violence.

Homophobia is evil. Hate crimes of all kinds are evil. I can't see any act of Congress stopping them however. If it were possible to prosecute the criminals to the fullest extent of the law it might deter a few, but the haters will go on being evil no matter what we do. Rise above the hate.

why do we feel the need to place only certain groups under hate-crime legislation. this is granting special priveledges on minorities. hate crime legislation is a political ploy designed to mandate special treatment for minority groups. Its perfectly Ok to hate wealthy people and commit crimes because of that hatred. or perhaps fat people or conservatives or liberals or this one or that. Murder is murder, and it is rarely done out of love!
I suggest you carry a weapon, take a martial arts class, pray, or undergo counseling in order to develop a spine. Hatred exists everywhere and no group or individual is excluded.
Stop looking to government to solve your problems or protect you. sometimes you have to defend yourself, or help the police defend your neighbors. short of this, you will always be a victim!

Actually, the last straw was long ago. This is another tragic story about the hatred and evil of mankind added to the pile. It sickens me to no end to read about such evil. I only hope that one day people like this get what is coming to them from a higher power.

I hate to tell you, but yes, the man died, and here is the link to the story (notice the comments that follow it):

It's sickening to know that murderers walk around, hunting for a target based on sexual orientation. I hope the murderer gets what he deserves. What a sick society.
