It depends on the type you're using. I am on Nuvaring and as long as it is inserted on the first day of your period, it is completely effective immeadiately. I know also that Mirena is effective immeadiately. With the pill it is recommended that for the first cycle you use back up protection (a condom is probably easiest), as a precaution. By the second cycle it should be in full effect. hopefully that helps. Make sure you fully read and understand the insert that came with your birth control. EVERY pill is different and some may take longer to be effective, others may be effective immeadiately. Its very important that you read that, or talk to your pharmacist or doctor before begining on birth control good luck!

depends on what type of birth control you are using. but it will not work for the first month. after that it will be effective if you do not skip any days and take it around the same time each day.

I believe they told me after one month. It's been so long. You need to call your Doctors office and ask them. Don't rely on a answer from Yahoo answering folks. This is something important, and you need to speak to someone who truly knows for sure.

I believe a doctor tells their patients to use back up contraception for a month when you begin to use pills and/or change the brand you are using.

it is one month no matter what type of pill you are using, I am surprised you were not informed of this. they usually give you something to use until the 30 days are up.

I suppose you mean the pill. . .the recommended time for when you first go on the pill is one month. The directions that came with your pills should say so.

i have heard 3 different opinions on this. some say one week, others say two, and others one full pill pack. i would go with one pill pack- the longer the better, right?
