No. You can listen to some great discussions on this at www.grc.com/securitynow -podcasts. You can also subscribe to some of the twit podcatsts (TWiT =this week in tech). For example, windows weekly is a TWiT podcast that has a lot of info on this subject.

There seem to be a lot of drawbacks with respect to continued use of existing peripherals -due to driver problems.

The real advance with Vista is security -but only in the 64-bit version of Vista. So this is also a double-edged sword. If you opt to get the 64 bit version, you need 64 bit hardware AND there are even more application incompatibility problems with 64 bit vs 32 bit Vista and fewer drivers are ready and working...

There is a wiki
that you could look at for application compatibility.

It will take some work -you need to check with all your hardware vendors (on their websites) to see if they have Vista drivers for your camera, scanner, printer, video card, etc.

REally though, upgrading is not really necessary. However, if you needed an excuse to get a new computer -you could probably only find Vista anyway.

I am thinking of getting a mac book and setting it up to dual boot OS X and Vista. I am waiting patiently for OS X 10.5 and other news announcements to come out to see just how supportive the macbooks are of Vista.

Parallels put out an announcement today about their virtualization software that makes it all sound just great -but that might mean getting Vista ultimate for OS X.

Yep, that would be my dream machine.
1. macbook
2. OS X 10.5
3. partition with Vista
4. parallels so I can run Vista from OS X from that partition and do so in that special mode that means I don't actually see Vista.

Gotta save my pennies.
