I have to rabbits that are a few years old now, both female. Over the last three months they have started digging all the litter out of the boxes and then sniffing/licking the bottom of the box as if they are looking for something. I've tried different litter, new boxes, etc... they keep doing it! also I tried to put the toppers that clip on to the litter boxes so that they can't kick all the litter out, but they chew those off!! they have regular chew toys and things like this... any advice would be helpful... ican't sleep with all this noise!!!!!

I had this problem too.... Go to Home Depot or another hardware store and buy what is called Flourescent Light Covers. It is plastic grid used to cover ceiling lights. The holes are usually 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. You can cut the grid so it fits into the litterbox, raised slightly off the floor of the box, above the litter. That way the poop falls through and the bunnies feet stay cleaner, and they can't dig out the litter! Here's what it looks like: http://www.geocities.com/bunniekrissy/grid_litterbox.JPG

Hope this helps!

LOL Cute but destructive, that's what my altered male is. I would first try these little wheels you get a petsmart. They are mineral wheels. One's brown and the other is white. They will nibble on them. I would also try feeding them basil, dill weed, cilantro, mint. The smell and taste may also help their little craving. IF all else fails- I would get a couple of altered males and bond them together. It may help them get their attention else where than the litter boxe problem. : )

LOL. They're licking the mineral build up from urine (salts and minerals are excreted in urine). They need a mineral block.

Best of luck.

Edit: in the wild, rabbits have been known to lick dirt and rocks for the mineral content. They need to replaces salts and other trace minerals that they just don't get in their food.

Your rabbits might be restless as that although tame, they still have the digging/burrow habbit. What I used to do is let my bunnies run around outside to dig and wear themselves out.

Try putting vinegar in the corners. The litter will cover the smell for you, but not for the bunnies . . .
