WAS he one of the greatest players of all time?
When I hear the name, I think of him as being one of the few players who had the guts to stand up and insist that his card be removed from the collection as they were sponsored, at the time, by tobacco companies.
Go, Honus...

I don't really think he's forgotten. I truly believe that any credible authority (in other words, anybody of whose opinion I would value) would revere him as one on the best players of all time in his respective era or any era. I think the fact that most serious respondents here don't believe he is forgotten is a solid piece of evidence. For those who have forgotten about him, I would doubt their knowledge, their recognition and/or their love for the sport, therefore I would discount the exclusion altogether. On that note I think we should organize a Honus Wagner revival. Write him in on your local ballots for town sherrif. Let's give Mickey Mouse a run for his money We shall march straight to Washington and demand the recognition he deserves! Let's turn all those non-Honus believers into worshipers of the church of the Flying Dutchman!

Because he's long gone dead as are all the people who ever saw him play. People now are only interested in those who can injest the most steroids to let them hit a zillion homeruns. Records mean nothing when they're accomplished artificially but the average fan today, sadly, doesn't see it that way.

Too bad. After all, he was in the inaugural HOF class. Quite an honor for him by those who saw him play. Shortstops just don't get the publicity. I hope Omar Vizquel is never forgotten.

Who is he?! Does he have any records? Typically the players that are remembered for a long time have a record or two that is still standing or has stood for a long-time. Or an award named after them...

Who is forgetting him? Pretty much every list of greatest players I've ever seen includes him.

The only thing I can think of is because he played so long ago. He definitely belongs among the all-time greats.

Who said so? Not me, anyway. As for forgotten, why not try: Ernie Banks, Al Kaline or Willie Stargell?
