I suggest he gets perscribed some Viagra or Cialis. This should help him regardless of what psychological concern he has. After he used it and manages to maintain an erection he will feel more confident and probably won't need the drug the next time. However the problem may be psyiological and in which case it is best he sees a doctor and gets a blood test to be sure. I know this sounds rather daunting but trust me; after all of this hassle is sorted out you can enjoy a healthy sex life with your partner. :)

A ring or for that matter a rubber band would hold the blood in his penis keeping it erect.
He should probably discuss his problem with a doctor as others have said it is probably psychological but it is best to check.
Remember to take the ring/band off or he will have very serious problems
