Yep, since Feb first, my state passed a general ban on smoking in public place of all kinds... hospital, public offices, workplaces... everyplace beside the street and the privacy of the home. Only bars, restaurants and tobacconists (that are often part of a bar) were given a 1 year delay in having to enforce the law.
The individual in me just feels that this is one more bite at our freedoms. The asthmatic is thankful that next year, I won't have to wonder how smoky a place will be before I go out.

Yes, and it sucks, privately owned bars and taverns should be able to decide who can or cannot smoke in the their establishments. Now big time family type places like Applebees, Chilis, etc etc. It's OK I think because kids aren't being exposed, but if I want to go to my local bar and have beer, I can't smoke?? Stupid!

Yes. For the majority of people this is a good thing. I was out with one my friends who is a heavy smoker, and he said even he liked the rule, because he doesn't like to smell other people's smoke when he's eating.
