I was at the RE yesterday and he prescribed me clomid, i start tomorrow. Does the clomid help with women who have endometriosis? Also what are the percentage of women who have gotten pregnant using it? if you are one of them help me feel like this will help. I am very depressed trying for 2 years and i have this hope. Please reassure me. My insurance does not cover infertitlity so i need this to work, Thank you.

We tried longer than you before finally going to the doctor. When I finally did, I learned that I have endometriosis (had surgery a couple months ago to have it removed). My doc put me on clomid so that I would produce two eggs instead of one. I'm now on my third cycle of clomid. I've read that it induces ovulation in 50% of the women who take it. Other women I know who have taken it required 5 months to get pregnant, so hang in there! My insurance does not cover it either so I'm hoping to not have to go IVF or injectable drugs. At least clomid only costs 25 bucks!

Are you charting your fertility signs already?

A couple of important things to know about clomid: It can DRY up fertile cervical fluid which is ESSENTIAL to conception (though this can be rememdied fairly easily). It can also shorten your luteal phase (time after ovulation and before the next period), preventing the implantation of the fertilized egg (a very early miscarriage, essentially). Clomid can also artificially lenghten your luteal phase (good if you have a short luteal phase) but frustrating if you keep testing b/c you think you're pregnant when it's the clomid delaying your period.

If you haven't been charting your fertility signs, I'd highly recommend trying that for a couple of cycles at least before clomid. It's free-very inexpensive. The costs usually involve the purchase of a basal thermometer (optional but very useful), purchse of a book or two (which could checked out of the library instead), and the purchase of software (again that's optional b/c there is free software available on the internet and/or you could print out charts to use offline).

Many fertility problems can be due to cycle "issues" and can be resolved easily at home. It's worth a try before risking fertility drugs and/or paying for expensive and invasive fertility work-ups.

Some good sources: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software) and Garden of Fertility.

Hi I am on cycle day 24 and took clomid from cycle days 5-9 I am awaiting to see if i am pregnant. My problem is different to ypurs. I was on depo and as a result I stopped ovulating. So if I am not pregnant hopefully it kicked started my ovaries so they will continue to ovulate and i can fall pregnant naturally. Every woman is different and Clomid does not work for everyone and I am pretty sure that I am not pregnant (just by feeling). Goodluck.
