Most villages in India are very basic with very few if any of the amenities you take for granted in the USA. I lived in India for about 12 weeks in 1985. I worked in a small village named Pathakhera, in the stae of Madyha Pradesh. The village had no street lighting, sewer systems or running water. 90% of the villagers lived in mud huts with no utilities. There were no cinemas, drive thru's or box stores. Most of the shopping was done at local markets and in most cases barter was the most common means of obtaining goods. Every so often a travelling cinema show would come to town. They would set up a large tent with a generator and movie screen and most of the locals would gather for the show. Other than that the only forms of entertainment were sports games played in open areas, mostly soccer. The villagers led a very spartan but satifying life. They welcomed strangers and made them feel at home.
