There isn't really a precise age, and anything you read suggesting there is, is wrong.

Bone density will increase if you start weightlifting. As you build muscle, bone density will increase to support the extra muscle. If you are convalescent and incapacitated, muscle density will slowly decrease along with atrophy of muscle.

So, a guy in high school can exceed whatever natural bone density he might otherwise have later in life if he becomes a body builder and puts on a lot of muscle.

So, it's a little misleading to suggest that it peaks at a particular age, when your natural bone density peak can be exceeded very early on as a teenager if you are a bodybuilder.

It is different for different males. the average age can be from 18-22. I knew a man who was very slim at 20, and when he was 21 his shoulders broadened to three times their width. I kid you not.
