So I wanna ask my boss to increase my workload?

Ok, so my boss cares very little for his employees and would get rid of anyone of us at a drop of a hat. Lately my workload is very light and I hate sitting here bored all day. I want to ask for more work, which would mean some training on my co-workers part, but i am afraid he will just eliminate my position. What would you do?
