The fact that there is a legal system in this country that allows people who have been wronged to have the ability to seek justice is a pro.

The fact that even if you commit a crime, you are still considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law is a pro (although it doesn't gaurantee that vigilantes aren't going to determine your guilt, and take the law into their own hands).

The fact that you have the right to an attorney to help you navigate the legal system is a pro.

So is having the right to be told what crime you are being charged with, and having the right to face your accuser.

The legal system in the US isn't perfect obviously, but it is definitely a step up from what some other countries have. It has been pathetic to watch this administration attempt to subvert the legal system by calling the people it captures during wartime 'enemy combatants' and bypassing geneva conventions and eliminating habeus corpus in these cases. Idiots immediately scream 'but they are terrorists!!!'

hope that they find themselves wrongfully accused someday, and are refused the means to mount a defense. It would be too damn funny.

Ok-I didn't see your previous question. Big pro-"innocent until proven guilty"--radically different than most nations; trial by a jury of your peers; cannot be forced to testify against yourself; have a right to an atty if you cannot afford one; uniform set of rules of evidence and procedures to avoid "trial by ambush." To all the persons critical of lawyers--remember someone like you hired us. I don't seek out clients. I don't even have a listing in the yellow pages. Other pros--you can sue the government. Can't do that in many nations. Anything you say in Court can't be used to sue you for libel or slander. People apparently complain about the lack of executions. Again--that's a jury decision, not the lawyers or the judges, so blame your fellow citizens on that one. Another pro-protection from unreasonable searches and seizures. You can't invade a person's home without probable cause and a search warrant. The right to confront the witnesses against you--no hidden witnesses. Right to a speedy trial. Right to be completely informed of the charges against you. Amendment VII-"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel or unusual punishment inflicted" You can't be jailed for the inability to pay a debt (except occasionally refusal to pay child support when you have the financial ability to pay).
I know a lot of people do not like lawyers and I know a lot of us are jerks, but remember behind every lawyer is a client. Some of represent abused and neglected children, so we're all individuals and some of are actually good, moral, ethical people. Sorry for those of you who haven't met the good attorneys. We're out there, too.

There are pro's, they are just hard to think about and imagine. Consider the facts that with the greedy lawyers, the justice system can just be minipulated. It hard to find pro's in a system where someone who comitted murder can get off scott free, or were child molesters only get put away for a small amount of time then get released and do it again. I have faith in our legal systems. Its the lawyers who give me doubt in it.

I find nothing wrong with it.
Except that we don't execute child molesters and murderers.

Well... we execute *some* of the murderers...
