Slightly less backward compatibility in Europe, vs. the US. Evidently Sony is not putting the PS2 "emotion" chip in European PS3s, which will use software emulation instead. This will have what they say is a "negligible" effect on backward compatibility. You should be ok - likely only a small number of games will be affected, and Sony may improve the firmware in the future to improve backward compatibility.

In the US it has the PS2 "Emotion Chip" built right into the board, thus allowing majority of the PS2 games to be run on the PS3. However, from pictures I've seen on the internet (Search for Final Fantasy X in particular) PS2 games look WORSE on the PS3 than on the PS2.
European markets do not have the Emotion Chip, thus very limited Backwards Compatibility.

No. On my Yahoo! Home page, it said that PS3 for Europe/Australia will not have the Emotion chip, the piece that makes the PS3 backwards compatible. So no, there will be slim to none bakwards compatibility. Get a Wii or 360 instead. They are the same thing, only 10x more fun. Plus, the PS3 costs too much. It will be $999.98 when it is released in australia/europe. That's just way too much money for a broken down piece of garbage. End of story, period.

Like the Xbox 360, certain games are not compatible.
With Sony's switch from a hardware to a software solution, even fewer games will be compatible.

It is to an extent. Most newer PS2 games work, but older PS2 and PS1 games tend to have graphics issues.

Yes, but apparently some games experience issues.
(This answer concerns the US model.)
