No No No. Connect the negative(black) jumper cable to part of the engine (metal).

taking the ground connection off of the battery will not solve any thing other then no connection. there are other things that you can do however. As for me i have a cable that i installed that connects the battery to the engine and chassis. this helps eliminate various ground lope problems. It will not help the car to being jumped faster. only thing that helps is a good charging system on the other vehicle and better connections on both vehicles.

Do not take the ground cable off your battery. Connect the black jumper to the negative terminal of your battery with the ground cable still attached. If that battery terminal is really corroded, or really dirty, then try connecting the negative (black) booster cable to a clean area on the engine block. But if your battery terminals are clean, you should have no problem clamping the booster cable right onto the the negative battery terminal. Just remember - clean surface = good ground, dirty surface = poor ground.

Your question is not clear on what you are doing. are you just charging the battery? or are you trying to Jumpstart the engine?
If you are jumpstarting the LAST connection of the cables should be directly to the engine - usually a lift eye bracket works best if you can see one - or a bolt. avoid fuel system or electrical things! the reason for this is their is usually a spark when you hook this wire up - and you do NOT want it near the battery as the battery very likely has free hydrogen in it and may EXPLODE. Do NOT pound on battery posts. If the battery bus bar internally cracks it can spark and cause battery to EXPLODE. messing with batteries can be very dangerous.
