Maxims near the Sheraton does a superb fillet steak for around £3.50 but the restaurant is dry, but i think they are OK if you bring your own ( but you need to check on that) its run by a french lady and her Egyptian husband.
the sonesta has 2 lovely restaurants the Italian and the Japanese. If you eat there, and there are more than 3 or 4 of you you can have tepenyake ( probably spelt that wrong) if you ask the manager when you go in. that's where they cook it on a hot plate on front of you, its a bit heavy on fat and garlic but i think its delicious and so does all my family.however if they will not do tepenyaki for you i wouldn't recommend it. ( but it is expensive about £12 a head) The Italian at the Sheraton is not bad. but i dont rate most of the Indians they tend to be fairly bland. I also love having a drink in the sinhoue coffe shop its outside and you can look down on the road and watch the world which is fun if sometimes a little noisy. there are many other restaurants in that area and many are ok but those are my personal choice. for view there is a restaurant right by the river next to the mummification museum down in the town, but i have never eaten there. if you find one you really rate please let me know i am going back my self in a few weeks all the above are near to the sheraton hotel and but after the sonesta which incidentally is a beautiful hotel Look at the chandelier as you go in

Myegypt restaurant, yumy yumy Egyptian food, the kids could not get enough of the chefs home made pizza and chips,
not Expensive iether try the omar kyam red wine one of the best wines i.ve tasted, our taxi driver took us there for some tea, and a beer after visiting the Valley of the kings, The owner by the way is a welshman, Called Tony, very informative knows all about the area put us wise anyway , we ate there 4 times in all and every time the food was ymy yumy, when I got home we had a problem with our e-mails and decided to go with yahoo. but could not find the name we wanted, my husband was wanting his diner so I said lets just go to myegypt. because we still talk about that place. so my new email address is guess what. every time we log on I feel hungry and wish I could go for a meal there.
