But he didn't like her much by this point. I am doing an essay to do with how deviant women are always punished somehow in the end. Here I couldn't remember, but I remember rwading somewhere that both the men in her life, the actors played them as homosexuals, so would you say that she still lost out in the end, because he didn't really love her?

She died in 1987.

She went back to the US and she took Johnny Farrell with her.
From what I remember that her and Johnny actually loved each other but because of their past and because of the love triangle and because of the business arrangements, they started to hate each other. She wanted freedom and Johnny wanted power. He got his power by marrying Gilda after the supposed death of her husband and in the process imprisoned Gilda. She finally was able to break free from Johnny and decided to return to the US. That is when he realized that he actually loved her and he wanted to go with her. By this time Johnny had lost the empire that he had gained by marrying Gilda. At this point, they have their run-in with Ballin.
Gilda never really got a comeuppance in the end. She had somewhat loose morals in the movie but it caused the men in her life more pain than it brought her. When she actually fell in love with a man is when she was really hurt.
