I was in 5th grade I think i was like 11. I had really bad cramps so I would take Aleve and that seems to work most of the time. As I got older the cramps calmed down a little and sometimes I barely would get cramps but I'm 21 now and they seem to be coming back. You get cramps like in your lower stomach, for me it was right under my belly button. Sometimes they feel weird like someone tapping on your stomach and sometimes it just feels like pain and it makes your lower back hurt to, or sometimes u just feel very uncomfortable like gas pains. Its different for everyone.

I was 13. Cramp severity varies from month to month - essentially it is your uterus trying to dispell the blood that it has created. Young Women's Health says, "When you have your menstrual period, you may get mild to bad menstrual cramps or pain in your abdomen or back. You may also have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, a headache, or lightheadedness. Some or all of these problems may start a day or two before your menstrual period and last for part of or all of your menstrual period. Menstrual cramps are caused by contractions of your uterus as the blood leaves your uterus. The lining of your uterus releases special substances called "prostaglandins." These substances increase the contractions and can cause nausea and lightheadedness. When you are having regular menstrual periods, or when you are ovulating (when your ovaries release an egg each month), your body releases more "prostaglandins". When you first get your menstrual period, it is common for you not to have regular menstrual periods and you may not ovulate for a few months, or even for a few years. So you may not have menstrual cramps when you first begin your menstrual period. After one or two or three years, when your hormone system is more mature, you might have more severe menstrual cramps."
You can take naprosyn and use heat on your abdomen to help alleviate the pain. Exercise actually helps (even though you do not feel like getting out of the fetal position) as does staying away from caffeine, alcohol and gassy foods.
Good luck!

I got mine kind of late. I was already 13 going on 14. Never had cramping until i became 22. And main reason for that was that i had responsible and stressful job. I think that was the main reason for cramps to start. Now i dont have them again because i was on birth control pill and depo shot for some time.
Now if you curious on there crams were then it would be all over my stomach and lower back. It would be so bad i cant walk or stand up straight. I would be laying down all over my floor like i had a stroke and look for my pain killers. It got so bad that i had to time myself on how fast pain killers would take to kick in. 45 min i was in pain untill it would go away.

I was about 12, I think
first it was okay, no cramps, no pains - nothing, but a couple of years ago (I'm 19 now) I've begun having stomach hurting on the 1st day of my periods - only on the 1st, other 3/4 days are just great

I was 12, and basically I realized that I had gotten my period when I noticed some severe cramping in my lower abdomen - like, the area below your belly-button. Period cramping can also cause a lot of lower back pain.

I think I was 12, and i didn't get cramps for a while. When I did, they were barely noticeable - it was the lower backache that got me. Now I have muscle aches(not cramps) in my stomach on the first day, but the rest are fine.

I was 12, so at the ripe old age of 32, I should be going through menopause any day now! Cramps are generally below the belly button, but lots of girls get muscle aches during their periods. Stomach aches, too. See if your mom will pick you up some Midol or Pamprin. And if you have a heating pad at home, put it on your belly. It will make it feel better.

I got mine in the 8th grade. And my cramps are always in my back. I've heard that means you will carry a lot the the pregnancy burden on your back, but I don't know.
